Drugs, infidelity, suicide, the girlfriends of rock stars that marked an era
When we talk about the history of Rock we think of the busy decades of the 60-70s, the black panthers and the festivals for peace, the Hippie movement and even the protests over Vietnam intersect with rock in history. But it also takes us to romances that ended up separating big bands, girls who crossed paths with these stars and some, it is said, led them to suicide.
It is not difficult to choose the first case, and it has to do with the separation of The Beatles. John Lennon's companions in the legendary group "The Beattles" always blamed his relationship with Yoko Ono, whom he met during an exhibition of Yoko's works in a London gallery, for the definitive separation of the band.
The groupies breaking up gangs
For the time of the 60s, 70s, 80s, a groupie was called a girl whose objective was to meet great bands and have intimacy with their members. These girls weren't normally looking for a relationship, the thrill of being a groupie was that they could even be in a session with all the members of a band and do literally anything.
Some cases are known in which some important rock band or star enjoyed sadomasochistic sessions with these girls willing to do anything. A well-known groupie in the scene was Nancy Laura Spungen. At the age of 17, she left her home and came to New York ready to live as a groupie. It was in that life that she met Sid Vicious, a member of the Sex Pistols, where she played bass and made choir in some songs.
Nancy Spungen was willing to consume her life rather than live it and that dragged Vicious along, between drugs, alcohol and all kinds of excesses, the band ended up breaking. Shortly after, at the age of 20, the girl was found stabbed to death in a hotel, months later, Vicious died.
Courtney Michelle and the suicide of Kurt Cobain
In this case it is not just a crazy girl looking for stars to have a good time, the beautiful Courtney Michelle was already a star in Hole, an alternative rock band, it was thanks to handling herself in the environment of the big groups that she ran into with Nirvana star Kurt Cobain in 1992 they were already getting married in Hawaii.
But life together was so disastrous that it was altering their careers, the pressure, excesses, infidelities, negative influences in the relationship, led to a crisis that ended with Cobain, who committed suicide in one of the most remembered and painful incidents in history of rock. To this day, Cobain biographers, fans, critics and Rock historians blame the girl for the suicide.
Pamela Courson and Jim Morrison
In this case, despite the constant excesses of the couple, both got used to coping with life that way, the tragedy came with the death of Morrison since Pamela, completely in love with the legendary singer of The Doors, did not resist the game of this in 1971 and 3 months later he died of an overdose, something that for many was actually a slow suicide.
