Ban flights from Cuba to Central America
The restriction is due to the migratory crisis that is currently being experienced in Central America
The airline Copa Airlines confirmed this Thursday that flights from Cuba to Central American countries were completely suspended, due to the great migration crisis that has led a large number of people from that country to leave in an uncontrolled manner towards the USA.
The information was released by the ticket sales supervisor of this airline's headquarters in Panama, who confirmed that there is a total restriction on all flights from the island of Cuba to Central American countries.
"We do not know how long this measure will last. We can only inform you that the direct purchase of tickets from Cuba to other Central American countries is totally paralyzed," said the worker.
2021 was not only another year of a pandemic for Central America, but also one in which the influx of migrants was excessively evident.
And it is that between October 2020 and September 2021, the United States Customs and Border Protection office reported that 1,734,686 migrants detained by US authorities were registered.
Likewise, it was learned that the majority of migrants arrested in 2021 were from Central America and Haiti.
While in Mexico, the last transit country for those who have the objective of reaching the US, more than 145,000 irregular migrants were counted from January to August; three times more than the figure registered in 2020. This according to the National Institute of Migration (INM) of this country.
The experts and rulers of these nations assure that this entire migration crisis is not only due to the economic problems derived from the Covid-19 pandemic, but also to the high expectations that people have about life in the United States and what that many know as "the American dream".
