'It': HBO Max will produce a prequel series to the horror classic
The adaptation of the horror novels created by Stephen King are usually a success, as is the case with ' It ', the film debuted on the big screen in 2017.
The filming managed to become one of the most successful installments of the decade and the creators decided to continue the story after the success of the first film.
A couple of days ago, the HBO Max platform confirmed that it is working on the production of a prequel series to the terrifying movie ' It'. The story will be inspired by the story of the clown 'Pennywise' from the novel of the same name by Stephen King.
This news has caught the attention of the subscribers of the streaming platform, who a couple of months ago were waiting for the third part of It. However, the directors canceled this project due to casting problems and decided to create a new story set before the events of Derry.
About the upcoming 'It' prequel
The new series will be written and directed by the writer of ' It ' and ' It: Chapter 2 ' (Andy Muschietti). On this occasion he will also be in charge of the co-production with 'Bárbara Muschietti' and 'Jason Fuchs'. It will be broadcast on the HBO Max portal in the first launch of its premiere.
The new story will have the title of ' Welcome to Derry ' and will be set in the year 1960, where the first time that the deformed clown made the first attack will be recounted.
Who will play Pennywise?
One of the most frequently asked questions about the new production revolves around the villain of the series. Many people are wondering if award-winning actor 'Bill Skarsgard' will return to play the demonic clown. So far, the Muschietti brothers have not spoken about the issue.
However, during an interview of 'Bill Skarsgard' with the agency Variety, the actor answered some of the questions from the media. Bill reported that he was called by the directors of HBO to be part of the new prequel series of 'It', but he ruled that he was taking time to make the decision.
Fans hope that Bill will return to play the role, since he proved to be a high-level actor who went on to get an Oscar nomination for his performance in It. So far the actors who have confirmed their participation in the new series are: Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy.
When does 'Welcome to Derry' come out?
The new series, which will be broadcast on HBO Max, will begin filming in mid-May this year. Showrunner Andy Muschietti stated that the project still has many details and that its premiere is estimated for spring 2023.
