Donald Trump becomes the first US president to visit North Korea
Donald Trump made history this Sunday by becoming the first US president to set foot on North Korean soil. His trip to this country is due to a dialogue that he will hold with President Kim Jong Un, in order to deal with the negotiations on the North Korean nuclear program.
All this historical event has occurred between the borders of both Koreas. In this way, both leaders had a meeting in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates the two nations, the place where Trump crossed North Korean land to start his dialogue with President Kim.
Hundreds of media were at the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), where Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un had their first handshake. The first words were given by the North Korean president, who said: "I'm glad to see you again. I never expected to see you in this place."
Kim Jong Un also gave a few public words about all this historical event lived with the American president:
The fact that the two countries, despite a long-standing relationship of hostility, can shake hands for peace in a place that symbolizes division (...) shows that the present is better than the past
On the other hand, President Trump has commented:
Very positive things are happening… We have met and we like each other since the first day and that is what matters
The American president also spoke about the next meetings that both nations will have :
In the next two or three weeks the teams are going to start working... The meeting was very good, very solid... Let's see what happens.
The first meeting that Trump and Kim had was on June 12, 2018 at the first summit in Singapore, becoming the first meeting between an active sitting president of the United States and a North Korean leader since the Korean War.
