Dog attends trial as victim of abuse

For the first time in Latin America, a furry friend is brought to trial as a victim of animal abuse. Yes, we are talking about a dog ! "Champion" is the precious dog that became the first animal in America to stand trial.

This happened in Costa Rica, Champion two years ago was not called that, his name was Tayson, and he was half a year old at the time of suffering the abuse. The puppy was tied to such a degree that the rope was inserted into his neck, he was also in deplorable conditions such as malnutrition and infested with fleas.

At the time of the trial, it was explained that no act of disorder would be tolerated as the room was full of journalists, reporters, prosecutors, civilians, cameramen, witnesses, defendants, lawyers and residents who were going to support the champion. However, this cute dog behaved like a professional and only emitted a small bark.

The person who moderated Champion is Dora Castro when she was alerted by a relative of the owner through a video. She is president of the Athenian Foundation for Aid to Abandoned Animals, champion had to be under medical care for approximately twenty days.

Dora Castro said that currently Champion only has slight sequels, for example; does not tolerate necklaces.

Costa Rica has a law that protects animals, the penalties range from six months to three years in prison or twenty to fifty days' fines.
