With 99% of the polls scrutinized, the leftist Gabriel Boric won 55.87% of the votes, over his opponent José Antonio Kast, who obtained 44.13% of the voters.
This Sunday, December 19, the people of Chile elected their new president, with a massive turnout of 8.3 million people. The leftist Gabriel Boric is the youngest president in the history of Chile, at 36 years old.
The trend had already been set at 7:00 p.m., and it was clear that Gabriel Boric was positioning himself as the new president of Chile; took an advantage to the standard-bearer of the Christian Social Front, of eleven points.
Without a doubt, Boric's triumph represents a generational change, and his vision of government includes the participation of student mobilizations. Within his government plan, the president-elect has declared that it will include increasing taxes on large companies, and on the richest people in the nation.
Likewise, he plans to put an end to the pension system, and wants to transform the health system, seeking to create a Welfare State.

The elected candidate appeared in La Alameda with Santa Rosa, to celebrate his triumph with his followers. In the midst of the crowd, he was grateful for the support, and said he was honored by the new task he must undertake for the betterment of the nation.
"I will be the president of all Chileans, my commitment will be to take care of democracy every day," these were some of his words as he addressed the crowd.
Likewise, he declared that his objectives will include fighting drug trafficking, defending the constituent process, and bringing justice to those who have been victims of human rights violations in the country.
