Ukraine: President Zelensky acknowledges that the possibility of joining NATO has diminished
The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, assured this Thursday that the chances of Ukraine joining NATO are getting lower and lower.
The president pointed out that there are specific causes that prevent it, noting that there are countries that currently oppose it apart from Russia, nations that apparently are part of NATO.
Zelenski, has refused to name the countries of the Alliance that oppose the Ukrainian incorporation.
On his Twitter account, Zelensky announced that he had a conversation with Charles Michel, president of the European Council, to assess measures against security threats.
In addition, they alluded to the most recent international contacts and prioritized the peacemaking mechanism within the Normandy format.
From Russia, they have demanded that Kiev first comply with the agreed agreements before starting talks with Putin. In response, Zelensky reiterated that tensions between the two countries must be resolved diplomatically.
Western and European contacts
This weekend, meetings of Western and European leaders have intensified to deter a war between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelensky has had meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron.
A week ago, José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, held a brief meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dimitro Kuleba, in kyiv.
At that time, Albares stated that although all the measures were open, no one in the eastern region of Europe was preparing for war.
On the other hand, upon returning from his visit to Russia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone meeting with Joe Biden to report the progress of the meeting in Russia to the US government.
The two leaders agreed that after Scholz's talk with Putin, guarantees of a real de-escalation of the conflict should be demanded from Russia, in addition to exposing as many times as necessary the great threat that the Russian deployment on the border represents.
Although days ago Russia announced that its troops are withdrawing from the border, Western and European allies have denounced that contrary to Russia's claim , they have increased their presence with more soldiers.
Finally, Biden and Scholz agreed that greater vigilance is imperative because the risk of a new attack by Russia continues to exist.
In the morning hours of this Thursday, pro-Russian soldiers in the separatist region fired missiles from medium distance, hitting the projectiles in a kindergarten and a school in a Ukrainian town.
Olaf said that so far there are no significant signs of a withdrawal of Russian soldiers.
