Taliban request to participate in the UN General Assembly

The Taliban request representation in the nations giving the battle of credentials, a measure that can overflow a diplomatic battle with the pre-existing Afghan representative.

Afghanistan is currently represented at the UN by Ghulam Isaczai, assigned by the previous democratic government, which one month ago was defeated by the Taliban. Applications are being reviewed by the Credentials Committee of the UN.

The Taliban who are in charge of Afghanistan have given the UN instructions for the replacement of Isaczai with its own representative.

The Secretary General received a statement with the letterhead, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated September 20, 2021, signed by Ameer Khan Muttaqi, requesting participating in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly of the 21 to 27 September 2021.

Do not recognize current representative of the UN in Afghanistan

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, Isaczai has continued to be the UN representative and demanding the UN Security Council to require Taliban to sign a more democratic government.

Response from the United States to the UN

The United States announced, which will continue the request for the change of representative to the UN by the Taliban closely and will make a debate with other members of the Credentials Committee, is not expected to take a decision before the end of the UN General Assembly.

What decision will the UN Credentials Committee will take before the request of the Taliban

The Credential Committee will be taken a time to respond to the Taliban and can not predict how much it will take. The General Assembly lasts three months and is not expected to make a decision at that time and will continue to review.

In the UN Assembly, the fundamental issue is the right of women and children under the regime of the democracy of the Taliban. The UN Security Council voted this Friday to extend its UN attendance mission in the country for six months.
