Jussie Smollett is sentenced to prison for lying in statements to the police
The actor assured in the trial that something could happen to him in prison and explained that he is not suicidal.
Actor Jussie Smollett was sentenced to 30 months probation on Thursday.
The first five months he will have to spend in a prison in Cook County, Illinois, after being convicted of five of the six charges he faced.
Among the charges faced was: disturbance of public order and lying in statements to the police, regarding the racist and homophobic aggression, which he claimed to have suffered on January 29, 2019, in Chicago.
The actor has an amount to pay more than 120,000 dollars to the city. This amount is for the resources invested in the investigation of the crime, of which he insisted that he had been a victim. In addition to this, it has a fine of 25,000 dollars.
Before the sentence was passed, the former protagonist of the series ' Empire ' refused to give statements on the recommendation of his lawyer, who planned to appeal. However, when the judge reported his decision, the actor began to shout, "I am innocent."
At that time he also hinted that his life was in danger in prison and that there are a series of plots against him.
Before the judge, he said that he is not suicidal and that he is innocent. He also added that, if he had done what they indicate, it would mean that he played with the suffering of Americans and with the fears of the LGBTQ community.
He explained in detail to the judge that, in case something happened to him inside the prison, he would not have done it and he was in charge of notifying it in advance, since he is not a suicide.
Despite his statements, he failed to move the judge and described him as selfish, arrogant and narcissistic. He claimed that Smollett had perjured himself on the stand.
With this, the legal battle ended in which Jussie Smollett defended his innocence until the last second, despite admitting that he had had a relationship with one of the Nigerian brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundario.
These brothers received a payment from Jussie to organize an attack, to gain public opinion in favor and thus get a raise in the series in which he worked.
