One of the oldest human fossils found in Greece
In Greece, two human skulls have been obtained that could change history due to how old they are.
These skulls are called Apidima 1 and Apidima 2, they were found in 1978 by a group of scientists and were stored because they could not be analyzed accurately, it was not until now, more than 40 years later, that a new group of researchers they got to work with them and discovered something surprising.
The skulls were analyzed with new technologies that allow radiometry studies. In addition to analyzing both skulls, they also made comparisons between them.
Apidima 1 is approximately 210,000 years old and belongs to the species Homo sapiens, which shows traces of ancient human and modern human traits mixed together.
The other skull is called Apidima 2, this is much more recent than Apidima 1, being at least 170,000 years old and belongs to the Neanderthal species, the species that is one step behind Homo sapiens in the human evolutionary chain.
This study suggests that both species, both Neanderthal and Homo sapiens, lived together, even though Neanderthals are older.
Neanderthals are believed to have mysteriously died out around 40,000 years ago. The reason is unknown but many point to climate change, others believe that it is not so easy to know.
Why is it so relevant?
If these studies are confirmed to be correct, history as we know it would change. This discovery would show that the modern human arrived in Europe more than 150,000 years earlier than previously believed, this would obviously change everything that was supposed before, with a modern human in such early dates already in Europe, many of the things that we think we know, are no longer valid.
We could learn much more about the direction Homo sapiens took when it left Europe, what other species it encountered and even its origin. The best thing is that we will not only obtain information on Homo sapiens, knowing who he met, we will also know about that encounter, and consequently we will know about that species with which he ran into.
Without a doubt we know little about the world we live in, the exploration of outer space is by far the most important of all, more than the exploration of land and sea, this is justified, exploring the earth only allows us to rewrite our history as we usually do doing, exploring space, on the other hand, is much more useful.
I personally believe that these types of discoveries will continue to emerge, many people still believe that Christopher Columbus discovered America, when he did not. Since childhood, we have been taught a version of the world that is very far from reality, unfortunately the educational system does not change constantly as history does. Sometimes to a lesser extent, sometimes to a greater extent, but the story will always change, and it will be that way until we find that missing piece that we still don't even know what it is.
