Frankfurt beat West Ham away in the Europa League
This Thursday, the match corresponding to the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinals was played at the London Stadium, where West Ham received Eintracht Frankfurt in a match that ended with a score of 1-2.
Notably, the only time these two teams have met was in the 1975–1976 Cup Winners' Cup continental semi-final. On that occasion the English team beat the Germans with a global score of 4-1, but lost the final against Anderlecht of Belgium 4-2.
The match started positively for the visitors, since in the first minute after a center by Rafael Santos Borré, Ansgar Knauff connected it with a header to convert the 0-1 partial. Great start for Frankfurt!
The locals had to react and even the public encouraged them with applause, but they were unable to generate clear scoring situations until in the 13th minute, Bowen had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper and his shot hit the base of the post.
The following minutes would be for the English and at 19 'there was a corner, which Micael Antonio hits from the right and manages to get the score equal. From that moment the 'hammers' began to dominate the game and create chances.
Until in minute 36, Borré returns to pass it to Ansgar Knauff and the winger's shot goes very close and almost converts the second for his team. In the last minutes, both teams would try to impose their conditions, but neither would achieve the objective. With that marker they would go to rest.
In the second half the German team would come out with a better game, trying to get the advantage on the scoreboard, until in the 52nd minute there was a play in the local area that generated a rebound and Daichi Kamada pushed it with his foot to send it to the network background. 1-2 definitive.
However, at 68' the English almost equalized with a play that started with a shot by Benrahma that hit the post and came off. The Algerian player had entered for Manu Lanzini at minute 64. Since his entry, West Ham has improved in attack.
However, at 76' Kamada almost sentenced the game. With a good start from the German team on the left wing, there was a counterattack that ended in a shot from the Japanese that hit the post and went.
Time would run out and it would not be enough for the English to draw, who will have to seek a comeback next Thursday, May 5 in Germany in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinals.
Leipzig wins by the minimum on the end
In the other game of the semifinals, Leipzig received Rangers at the Red Bull Arena in a tough match that ended up being defined in the last minutes with a goal from Angeliño.
From the beginning, the German team tried to impose conditions and create the clearest chances. Nkunku was one of the most unbalanced and the one that reached the rival area with more danger. At 12' he headed in a cross from Hendricks, but failed to give him enough direction to convert the first.
Angeliño would also have some opportunities like the one in the 31st minute, when he took a left footed shot that could have ended in a goal, but it ended up hitting Goldson. That way they would go to rest with a goalless draw.
In the second half the dynamic would remain the same. Leipzig would totally dominate the match, although it did not worry the Scottish team's goal very dangerously.
At 70', Dani Olmo sends a filtered pass that Nkunku receives at the edge of the area, goalkeeper McGregor comes out and is dribbled by the striker who finally finishes off and sends it over the crossbar.
However, at 85' there was a corner that was taken by the right and the ball was rejected by the defence. The clearance falls at the edge of the area and Angeliño appears who, without letting it fall, hits it with his left foot with the outside to get a powerful shot that he sends to the back of the net to convert the final 1-0.
The game ended and only one team was seen with the attitude of wanting to win. The second leg will be in Scotland on May 5 where Rangers will have to seek a comeback to try to get through to the final.
