Learn how to make spring triangles from scratch in an easy way

Spring triangles.

Spring triangles are fried puff pastry with a vegetable filling, which is traditional in several Asian countries, especially China. In fact, it is very similar to cakes or cupcakes made in Western countries.

These can be perfect for dinner, breakfast or a mid-afternoon snack. Also, you can make it and leave it stored in the refrigerator to cook later.

In this recipe, we will explain how to make them with pork, but you can also make them only with vegetables to make them healthier.

Ingredients of the spring triangles

For the filling:

  • Half Cabbage or cabbage.

  • 2 or 3 cloves of garlic.

  • 300 grams of minced pork, beef.

  • Salt to taste.

  • 2 or 3 carrots.

  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce.

For the mass:

  • 250 grams of common wheat flour.

  • 500 milliliters of water.

  • 1 teaspoon salt.

  • 50 milliliters of olive oil.

Steps for the elaboration of the spring triangles

Preparation of the filling:

  1. Cut the cabbage in half, remove the trunk from the center and proceed to chop it very finely and small. It is vitally important that all the vegetables are cut very small so that it becomes easier for you to fill the triangles.

  2. Once you finish chopping the tail, set it aside.

  3. Place a saucepan on the heat and add enough olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add two to three cloves of crushed garlic and sauté until golden brown.

  4. Add the minced pork to the pan and sauté together with the garlic. Next, sprinkle a little salt.

  5. Let the meat cook very well and when it is done, add two to three grated carrots and mix a little.

  6. Add the reserved cabbage from step 1 and continue mixing. Then rectify salt. Let all this cook until you notice that everything acquires a golden hue and looks tender.

  7. Add the soy sauce and mix until it is integrated throughout the content.

  8. Let it cook for one or two more minutes and after this time, turn off the stove.

  9. Transfer the filling to a separate bowl and set aside, letting it rest at room temperature, as this filling should be used cold.

Preparation of the filling.

Preparation of the dough:

  1. Pour 250 grams of common wheat flour into a bowl, followed by a tablespoon of salt and mix a little so that it is integrated into all the flour.

  2. Pour 500 milliliters of water over the flour, followed by 50 milliliters of olive oil.

  3. Mix everything very well until the dough does not have any lumps. You can do it with a wire whisk to make it easier for you to integrate the ingredients. Ideally, the resulting dough should be very light and continuous.

  4. In a separate bowl reserve two ladles of the mixture.

Mixing the dough.

Preparation of mass lists:

  1. Place a non-stick frying pan on the heat and grease a little with olive oil. Once the pan is hot, lower the heat to a minimum to prevent the lists from burning.

  2. With the help of a kitchen brush, paint the pan forming a list with the dough, so that it cooks while the pan is painted. Ideally, this ribbon should be a bit thick, at least 5 to 6 centimeters.

  3. Flip the list over and let it cook a little on the other side for a few seconds.

  4. Once the ribbons are ready, reserve on a plate.

  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have a plate full of these.

List of dough cooking.

Assemble the triangles:

  1. Place one of the lists on a flat surface and take a couple of tablespoons of the filling at one end of the list.

  2. Paint with the help of a brush and a little of the mixture, the lateral edges and the upper end.

  3. Take the left corner of the bottom corner and fold it to the top right side forming a triangle on top of the filling.

  4. With the peak that remains on the right side, fold it over again forming a triangle, as shown in the image.

  5. The rest of the leftover dough, fold it on top of the triangle. If you like, you can also cut the leftover dough with a knife.

  6. Press the edges so they stick properly.

  7. Repeat steps 1 through 5 until all the lists you made have been formed into triangles.

  8. Once you finish all the triangles, if you like you can store in the freezer to fry later, or fry instantly.

Folding and forming the triangle.

Fry the spring triangles:

  1. Place a pan on the stove over medium heat and add plenty of oil to fry.

  2. Once the oil is very hot, add, being very careful not to burn yourself, the spring triangles and wait for them to fry and turn golden. Remember to turn them until they are golden brown on both sides.

  3. Once the triangles are ready, remove them from the oil, drain a little and place them on a plate with napkins or absorbent paper.

  4. Finally, serve with the sauce or accompaniment of your choice.

Frying the spring triangles.
