Borrell assures that the meeting of Macron and Putin is a "stop in the military aspect" to the crisis in Ukraine
The representative of Foreign Affairs of the European Union stated that he did not expect the crisis in Ukraine to end in a classic armed conflict.
This Tuesday, the representative of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, Josep Borrell, assured from the United States that the visit of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, is a positive advance for the conflict in the east of Europe.
He assured in a joint press conference with the European energy commissioner, Kadri Simson, that he is a "stop military exercises".
Days before, the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, would have guaranteed that Putin promised not to increase military exercises on the border with Ukraine.
In the morning hours, at an event at the French embassy in the United States, Josep Borrell declared that there was little chance that the conflict in Ukraine would have a classic military confrontation as an outcome.
In addition, I consider that a total war is not expected. Putin will not invade Ukraine like Hitler invaded the USSR in 1941.
On the other hand, Borrell declared that the United States, the European Union and their allies agree on the need to strengthen energy security on the European continent, regardless of the outcome of the crisis on the Ukraine border.
Simson noted that the European Union plans to offset the impacts of gas energy supply from Russia with an increased flow of gas from three other producers: Norway, Azerbaijan and North Africa.
In addition, he detailed the possibility of supply compensation with liquefied gas, referring to Qatar and the United States.
Josep Borrell explained that the recent meetings on Ukraine between Putin and the president of China, Xi Jinping, are clear indications of the alliance that exists between China and Russia, countries which he classifies as authoritarian.
