There were 15 votes that said No to the equal marriage law, against 9 votes that tried to save this initiative, which sought to make reforms to the constitution to allow equal marriage in Yucatán Mexico.

The news was not well-received by the gay community, while some called the legislators "cowards", others were upset that it was the second time they had rejected the initiative.

After knowing the results of the vote, the president of the Board of Directors, Enrique Castillo Ruz, decreed that the initiative sent by Governor Rolando Zapata Bello had completed its legislative process, for which it was archived.

Since the Yucatán Congress, the opinions of the legislators have not been known, who have always kept this type of initiative silent and prefer to keep their opinions.
