Israeli strawberry sets Guinness record
The family waited a year to receive a response to the video sent in which they documented the heaviest strawberry in the world
The strawberry (strawberry) that was declared as the gigantic one by the Guinness World Records has a weight of 289 grams (10.19 ounces).
In February 2021, the fruit was picked by Chachi Ariel, on his family farm, near Netanya, in central Israel. The family has been in agriculture for 40 years and they say they have never seen anything like it.
A normal harvest day became a historic day for him. Checking the strawberries in the warehouse, they discovered a "treasure", they were 10 huge strawberries.
At that point, they decided to document the largest strawberry and submitted the video to Guinness. A year later, they received the statement in which the institution recognized the strawberry as the heaviest in the world.
Due to the waiting time, the family had to keep it in a freezer for the course of a year, for its preservation. Ariel assured that "she is no longer as pretty as before."
The Israeli farmer indicated that this strawberry can no longer be eaten, but last year they tried their "sisters" and it was very tasty, sweet and crunchy.
This type of strawberry is Ilan, a local variety, and they tend to grow quite large. Ariel commented that this specimen is only half the size it was a year ago.
Upon receiving the news, the family was very excited, as they are part of the Guinness Book of World Records.
The strawberry that previously held this position, weighed 250 grams (8.8 ounces), in 2015, grown in Fukuoka.
