Epic Games suspends trade with Russia
A new company has joined the sanctions against Russia, this time it has been the video game developer, Epic Games. The company has decided to suspend "trade" with Russia as a protest measure against the invasion of Ukraine.
This information was released through a brief statement that the company issued through its official Twitter account.
Epic Games' statement reads as follows: “Epic is stopping trade with Russia in our games in response to the invasion of Ukraine. We are not blocking access for the same reason that other communication tools remain online: The free world must keep all lines of dialogue open."
It is important to mention that this suspension will only cover the economic aspect. That is, the inhabitants of Russia will not be able to buy games or improvements in the Epic Games store.
Players can rest assured that, at least for now, the company has no plans to suspend access to video games. Of course, those players who used to buy on a recurring basis in the store are going to be affected by these measures.
The video game sector in solidarity with Ukraine
Due to the current situation between Russia and Ukraine, several video game companies have already expressed their solidarity. Companies such as Microsoft, CD Projekt Red, Ubisoft or Sony have spoken out in favor of Ukraine and have condemned Russia's actions.
In fact, just a few days ago, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Mikhailo Fedorov had asked video game and esports companies to stop supporting the Russian market and its teams.
Some companies have already spoken out, for example, Microsoft has suspended the sale of Xbox and Windows consoles in the country. Other companies such as CD Projekt Red have suspended sales from their digital store.
Similarly, Sony has suspended the launch of Gran Turismo 7 in the country and other companies have supported it with humanitarian aid. The video game sector has shown solidarity with the people of Ukraine, even more than other sectors.
