Prepare your own jams with these simple recipes

Jams are a kind of jelly made from fruit pulp and sugar, which are easy to make.

These are perfect to accompany by cookies, breads, waffles, hotcakes, among others. In addition, thanks to the fact that they are made from fruit, they are very nutritious and provide a large amount of energy to start the day.

Below we leave you several recipes for jams with different fruits, and we leave you some tips to make them perfect.

Strawberry jam

Strawberry jam

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of strawberries.

  • 250 grams of white sugar.

Steps for the elaboration

  1. Wash the strawberries and remove the tops with the leaves. Next, chop into very small parts. Place the pieces in a saucepan or pot where you will cook them.

  2. Add the 250 grams of sugar to the pot.

  3. Place the saucepan or pot over medium heat until you notice that everything begins to fall apart.

  4. When the mixture is at the boiling point, increase the heat to the maximum and begin stirring continuously so that the fruits and sugar are integrated while they cook.

  5. Let it cook, while you keep stirring everything for 20 to 25 minutes, or until you notice that the jam has finished cooking.

  6. Remove the jam from the heat and allow it to cool slightly before canning.

  7. Pack the jam and store it in the refrigerator.

Apple jam

Ingredients

  • 2 apples.

  • A cup and a half of water.

  • Half a cup of sugar.

  • Cinnamon.

Steps for the elaboration

  1. Wash the apples, peel them and cut them into very small pieces.

  2. Place the apple pieces in a wide pot. Next, add the water and sugar.

  3. Turn on the stove over medium heat and let the mixture cook while constantly stirring with the help of a paddle.

  4. Add the chopped cinnamon when it is at the boiling point. At this point, if you like, you can add half a tablespoon of vanilla, but this is optional.

  5. Stir repeatedly as the apple cooks and the sugar melts, about 20 minutes.

  6. After 20 minutes, the jam should be ready. If so, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  7. When the jam is slightly warm, package and store in the refrigerator. Remember to remove the cinnamon.

Blueberry jam

Blueberry jam

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of blueberries.

  • 250 grams of sugar.

  • The juice of one lemon.

Steps for the elaboration

  1. Wash the blueberries and place them whole in a large enough pot. Next, add the sugar.

  2. Stir the pot a little so that the sugar falls to the blueberries at the bottom and let it rest for an hour.

  3. After an hour, add the lemon juice and stir with a palette to integrate it.

  4. Place the pot on the stove over medium heat and let the blueberry mixture boil for about 30 minutes, stirring constantly with the paddle.

  5. After 30 minutes, to test that the jam is done, take a spoonful of the mixture and place it on a plate. Run your finger across the mixture on the plate and if it doesn't come back together, it's done. If it comes together, let the mixture boil for a few more minutes.

  6. Remove the jam from the heat and pack.

  7. Cover the containers and store the jam with the lid down.

Orange marmalade

Ingredients

  • A kilo of peeled oranges.

  • 500 grams of white sugar.

  • A few cinnamon sticks (optional)

Steps for the elaboration

  1. Wash the oranges and peel them, being careful not to remove the white part in the process.

  2. Cut the orange shells into very small strips. Place them in a container and reserve.

  3. Peel the oranges again, but this time you must remove the white part. Ideally, the pulp portion should be exposed. Likewise, remove the center branch.

  4. Cut the orange into pieces and add them to the pot where you will cook them.

  5. Pour the sugar over the oranges and mix with the help of a palette. Let them sit for about an hour.

  6. Meanwhile, to remove the bitterness from the orange peel, place a pot of water on the stove and when it is boiling, add the pieces of orange peel. Let them cook for 5 to 6 minutes.

  7. Remove the orange peels from the water and let them rest in a bowl of cold water.

  8. Throw away the water from the previous cooking of the orange peel, wash the pot and add clean water again to incorporate the orange peel again and cook again for 5 to 6 minutes.

  9. Drain the orange peel again and place it in the pot with the orange and sugar.

  10. Bring the pot with the orange, sugar and orange peel to medium high heat, mixing with a paddle and let them cook.

  11. Add the cinnamon and wait until it starts to boil. Once it starts to boil, turn the heat down to medium and wait 50-60 minutes for the jam to cook. Halfway through cooking remove the cinnamon.

  12. Remove from the heat, let the jam cool and pack it. Turn the jars upside down for 24 hours and tightly covered to preserve it.

  13. Reserve in the fridge with the lid up after 24 hours.

Guava marmalade

Ingredients

  • A cup of sugar.

  • 500 grams of guava.

  • A cup of water.

Steps for the elaboration

  1. Wash the guavas, cut them and add them to a pot. Next, add the cup of water and let them cook for 10 minutes over medium-high heat.

  2. After ten minutes, turn off the stove and let the guava rest for 1 minute, to proceed to blend it.

  3. Add the guava pieces to the blender and blend just enough to break up the pieces.

  4. Strain the liquid to remove all traces of seeds and lumps.

  5. Return the strained liquid to the pot and add the sugar.

  6. Turn on the stove over medium heat and start stirring with a paddle while the jam cooks. If you like, add a few drops of lemon, a tablespoon of vanilla and cinnamon. This is optional.

  7. Let the jam cook for half an hour and remove from heat.

  8. Pack and reserve in the fridge.
