Colombia: video of soldiers shooting young Rafael Caro when he enters a military base
Recently, news broke of the death of the young Rafael Caro at the hands of military personnel located at the La Lizama military base, Barrancabermeja. Today, videos have been released showing the moment when Caro is shot after trying to enter the barracks without permission.
The event occurred because the young man, who was accompanied by another group of people, carried a machete and had a rather defiant attitude. In this way, the military tries to defuse all the tension, although Caro, in a moment of anger and lack of education, ends up going to the military base without authorization.
Moments later, shots are heard, which caused the death of Rafael Caro. Several of the young man's companions went to the scene to verify the condition of the young man, who minutes later decided to take the body in search of help, although everything would end up resulting in the death of Caro.
Rafael Caro's brother made a statement, pointing out that the military had conflicts with Caro and the youth group. In turn, he points out that one of the soldiers had previously attacked the young man:
On July 26, they asked him for a search with video and photos, to which my brother, in the company of other friends, said no, because they do not have the authority to do that. From there the reprisals against them began. When they did not agree, the noncommissioned officer raised his hand and slapped one of the boys, but since they were filming, they did nothing.
The above has not been confirmed and is only part of Caro's defense. Likewise, according to the brother's accounts, the discussion between the military and the group of young people, seen in the video that circulates on social networks, occurred because one of the soldiers attacked Caro with a machete. In a moment of anger, Rafael Caro decides to go in search of a similar weapon and try to fight with the group of soldiers, although without success, since he would end up with a gunshot wound that would cause death.
It is not yet known what really happened in the entire meeting and the Colombian authorities are already studying the matter. In this way, it would be necessary to wait for official statements to know if it was really a conflict or if it was simply an act to protect the security of the military base.
In Colombia, it is totally prohibited to enter a military base without prior authorization.
