Zelensky questions NATO's performance in the invasion of Ukraine

During a videoconference with European leaders, the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski criticized that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has not taken the necessary measures to prevent the advance of Russian troops in the war in his country.

Ukraine decided not to join NATO

At the meeting dealing with security issues in Northern European countries, Zelensky emphasized that "if NATO closes the Ukrainian sky to Russian missiles and aircraft, in this way, the humanitarian no-fly corridor has not yet been established.", at the same time that he regretted that for a long time there had been talk of the proximity of the third world war and now it is unleashed on Ukrainian soil.

Similarly, the head of state pointed out that, although the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a very powerful force, some of its members "are hypnotized by Russian aggression."

In his view, this inaction has allowed "the Russian army to bomb peaceful cities and blow up blocks of flats, hospitals, and schools."

The president also called for sanctions on Moscow to be tightened, blocking ship access to Russia, and for banks to be excluded from the Swift system.

Ukraine out of NATO

Zalenski announced that his country will step back from Ukraine's NATO membership, in what he called a security guarantee.

"If we cannot enter through the front door, then we have to cooperate with the organizations that we can, with those that will help us protect ourselves," he said.

This decision is accompanied by strong criticism of the Organization and at the same time coincides with one of the demands of Russia, which has reiterated that Kyiv should not join NATO.

It should be noted that this Tuesday a new meeting was held between Ukraine and Russia to mediate a diplomatic solution to the invasion.
