World Day Against Human Trafficking

Slavery just took a different name, therefore it has not been abolished. This Tuesday, July 30, the World Day Against Human Trafficking is celebrated. The victims of human trafficking are especially sexually abused women and children, while men are forced into forced labor.

The latest figure provided by international organizations ensures that about 225,000 people between 2003 and 2016 were subjected to human trafficking. Of this number, 72% are women and girls.

In Spain, it is considered that 80% of women engaged in prostitution are totally forced into this work and isolated against their will. The worst, they are generally induced from minors, so that they do not know another way to earn money. Making them find everything they need in prostitution.

The United Nations recently warned about the situation of migrants, who taking advantage of their situation are placed in jobs that, although not considered forced, are poorly paid and do not have any legal guarantee, which makes them vulnerable.

“Migrants are in the spotlight. Thousands of people have lost their lives at sea, in deserts, in detention centers, at the hands of traffickers who carry out a monstrous and ruthless trade,” said the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

Generally, all countries are against prostitution. In Spain, last year 1,200 people were captured who would be involved in human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, minors being the main point of attack.

On this July 30, the World Day Against Human Trafficking is celebrated, which has received messages from different celebrities and even Pope Francis I has expressed his prayers.
