Lenín Moreno reaches an agreement with protesters in Ecuador
After almost 2 weeks of protests in Ecuador, everything seems to indicate that the country is back to normal. The protests left several dead and injured, even the president a few days ago had declared a curfew. It all started when the economic package for Ecuador was presented, in which the fuel subsidy was eliminated and without a doubt it was what caused the most annoyance and indignation.
Ecuador returns to calm
Lenín Moreno and the group of Protestant indigenous people managed to reach an agreement to repeal Decree 883, which consisted of the elimination of support for fuel. After this agreement, Ecuador began to calm down, some groups of indigenous people began to board their trucks to return to their place of origin and others decided to help with the recovery and cleaning of the affected areas.
Damage figures have not yet been calculated but are expected to be in the millions of dollars. The agreement was given last Sunday, October 1, 2019, however, the recovery will take a while. Although Ecuador has begun to rise little by little, public transport still has not managed to normalize, however, some places such as bakeries and stores have already begun to operate normally. Likewise, some roads in the country were already free, and some citizens joined in cleaning the streets.
Regarding the detainees after attacking the comptroller's office when it was set on fire, there were 27 people detained, however, only 14 remain in preventive detention and the rest must appear twice a week before the judge. Regarding the classes, a statement has been issued to resume them as of today, October 15, 2019 after the calm that is already beginning to be seen in the country, but there is still no news on how the days lost due to the protests will be recovered.
