Joe Biden authorizes the legal framework to strengthen sanctions against Nicaragua

After knowing the electoral results of Nicaragua where Daniel Ortega has once again been elected as president, Joe Biden has indicated that new sanctions will come for the head of government and his entire work team. However, many of these sanctions affect all of Nicaragua.

It is a Law to Strengthen Nicaragua's Adherence to the Conditions for Electoral Reform, its acronym in English form the word "Reborn". A law that has been passed by the House of Congress with the support of Republicans and Democrats.

This law was promoted by the Senate last August. However, last week he received the backing of the House of Representatives, where most of the legislators were against, the majority were from the leftist current of the Democratic Party.

It has been a law created with the objective of being able to redouble the sanctions against those responsible for holding these elections without any guarantees.

A law that has been adopted in a coordinated manner with its European partners and with Canada and to be able to combine them with possible measures with economic consequences.

Some consequences would be to establish review processes for loans from international organizations to the Ortega government and consider the validity of Nicaragua's participation in the trade agreement, which involves different Central American countries with the United States.

It must be remembered that the United States is the first world power in the market for Nicaraguan exports. The main promoter of this law has been Bob Menéndez.

This Democratic senator who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee of the upper house is characterized by being one of the main critics of the Spanish Government of Pedro Sánchez for his policy towards Venezuela and Cuba.

Other key senators for relations with American countries, such as Republican Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz and Democrat Tim Kaine, have also joined the approval of Renacer.

The United States has placed sanctions against different authorities of the Ortega regime, one of them has been the wife of the dictator Murillo, who is the vice president of Nicaragua. However, these sanctions have not had the abuses of the Marxist leader, who has the support of countries such as Venezuela, Russia and Cuba.

These sanctions have not stopped Daniel Ortega to continue with his dialectical aggressiveness, but quite the contrary, last Monday just after proclaiming himself the winner of the presidential elections, he accused opponents imprisoned in recent months during one of his speeches.

That is how he has classified them as "sons of bitches of Yankee imperialism". Likewise, I assure that the Government of Spain are "Francoist fascists, Hitler's little brothers" while the authorities of the European Union have been described as "Nazis".

Individual US sanctions

The United States Sanctions Act will be a legal framework for what will be a new round of sanctions. According to a senior official in the State Department, these sanctions will be coming very soon. It has been announced that there will be specific individuals who will receive sanctions where one of them is expected to be Daniel Ortega himself.

Ortega is accused of abuses of the electoral system, for using state companies that the Ortega regime uses at will and members of the security forces involved in political repression by his government.

Both the United States and other allies will seek to put as much pressure as possible on the General Assembly of the Organizations of American States (OAS), which began this Thursday in Guatemala. This with the purpose that a firm condemnation can be issued with the electoral process in Nicaragua.

Daniel Ortega was accused of wanting to perpetuate himself in power with a fourth consecutive term, where he has accommodated these presidential elections at his convenience. Likewise, it must be emphasized that this electoral process had an abstention of 81% of the voter.

This clearly indicates that the majority of Nicaraguan citizens have preferred not to participate in fraudulent elections that already had the current president of Nicaragua as the winner before starting the elections.
