American actor and director Sean Penn is in Ukraine collecting information for a film about the Russian invasion and attack in that nation.
According to the Ukrainian presidential office, the filmmaker attended the press conference held yesterday.
Through a publication on Facebook, they indicated that the director went to Kiev to record the events that are happening in Ukraine and "to tell the world the truth about Russia 's invasion of our country."
Likewise, they confirmed that the actor held a meeting with the president, Volodímir Zelenski, who particularly made a publication in his Instagram stories indicating that, “The more people know about the war in Ukraine, the more possibilities there are to stop Russia”.
Additionally, he met with other Ukrainian government officials and spoke with journalists and soldiers, with whom he toured various areas of the capital.
The publication reads that the American “is among those who support Ukraine today. Our country is grateful to him for such a show of courage and honesty (...) It shows the courage that many others, especially Western politicians, lack”.
This would not be the first time that Penn visits Ukraine, since in the month of November 2021 he was in the European country preparing for the documentary, talking with the Ukrainian army and visiting the Pri Azov area.
The audiovisual material will be produced by Vice Studios, Vice World News and Endeavor Content.
Humanitarian and anti-war work
The two -time Oscar winner has been involved with humanitarian causes for years.
In 2020, he premiered the film "Citizen Penn", which reflects the work he did with his team in the 7-magnitude earthquake in Haiti, which occurred in 2010.
Similarly, the documentary shows the founding process of the non-profit organization Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), a project on which it is focused.
CORE has been involved in delivering humanitarian aid to victims of the rains in Brazil and promoting the accessibility of vaccines against Covid-19 in vulnerable areas, inside and outside the United States.
On the other hand, in 2003 he was a regular critic of President George W. Bush, regarding the military intervention produced in Baghdad, a country he visited before the war action.
