Germany authorized shipment of anti-aircraft defense tanks to Ukraine
This Tuesday the German government ratified its support for Ukraine, at the same time that it authorized the sending of Gapard-type tanks to reinforce the anti-aircraft defense of the country invaded since February 24 of this year.
The machinery belonging to the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) consortium has the approval to be received by kyiv. This was detailed by the German defense minister, Christine Lambrecht, during a conference at the US base in Ramstein.
During the meeting, the minister rejected the "brutality" of the actions of Russian soldiers in Ukraine, where they have bombed places inhabited by civilians, raped women, among other acts considered war crimes.
Lambrecht stressed that Germany increased its military budget, as well as the creation of a special fund of 100 billion euros for defense expenses, and the arms shipments it makes to Kiev, including tanks, which also serve to contain the advance of enemy troops by land.
Additionally, he added that, in order to help Ukraine, they had to “say goodbye” to policies of exporting weapons to war and conflict zones. "It was not easy, but it was a decision supported by the majority of our population."
military aid
The representative of the defense ministry reported that they offered to train the Ukrainian army on German territory, to handle some of the delivered weapons.
Lambrecht said that although Germany's military capabilities are somewhat limited, anti-aircraft missiles will still be delivered. That is why he authorized KMW to send the tanks.
According to the minister , in order to defeat Putin, it is essential to unite, the aid must be done in a coordinated manner, since - for her - the Russian president "believed" that Western countries would turn their backs on Ukraine and the opposite happened.
