Daniel Ortega: Nicaragua decides between peace and terrorism
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has said that the people are choosing between peace or terrorism promoted by opposition parties. This is how the president of this country has made an unusual speech during the voting just after going to a voting center accompanied by his wife.
Daniel Ortega hopes to be reelected for the fifth time after three of the opposition parties were eliminated, seven of Nicaragua's presidential hopefuls were imprisoned, and two election candidates remain in exile due to arrest warrants against them.
During the statement of the current president of Nicaragua, he stated "Although they dress as they dress, they are always demons who do not like peace, they do not want tranquility for our country."
Peaceful Election Day
So far, electoral day in Nicaragua has passed very calmly. It has been noted a low influx of voters compared to other presidential elections, during the first 7 hours there were desolate voting centers.
According to the pro- government forecasts against the Sandinista, they had indicated that a massive vote would be witnessed, but everything indicates that the Nicaraguan people have not wanted to express their vote, considering that there is already a winner whatever the result.
The FSLN sympathizer, Francisco Silva, has stated the following: "This is a totally transparent electoral process, it is a process that, as the Sandinista National Liberation Front has demonstrated since its inception in 1979, we are totally democratic."
For these new presidential elections, around 4.4 million Nicaraguans have been called. However, the main opposition leaders have recommended not to go out to vote. The majority of Nicaraguans in exile have been active in protests against the elections.
Some mobilizations have been seen in different countries against the current president Daniel Ortega. On the other hand, the Asociación Madres de Abril, which collects and supports the families of the victims of the 2018 social status, have considered that the vote would legitimize Ortega in power, so the main call has been not to participate in the electoral fraud.
Elections without guarantees
Not only has the Nicaraguan opposition shown its rejection of the presidential elections, but the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union have also expressed their doubts about the legitimacy of the elections that are taking place.
All of them have commented that there are no guarantees of transparency in the results of the electoral process, which by far the winner will be Daniel Ortega again.
As a measure of rejection by the Nicaraguan opposition, they have wanted to express themselves through social networks using different tags #YoNoVoto, #NicaraguaNoVota or #YoNoBotoMiVoto, among many others in order to make themselves felt around the world.
This entire social media campaign has been done with the aim of convincing Nicaraguans not to leave their homes and keep the doors closed so that the streets can be seen completely empty. This would be one of the ways to show that the Ortega government is totally alone.
Many of the opponents consider that there is no one for whom you vote, since it is a fraudulent process that will give the current president Daniel Ortega the winner.
To all this, the president of Nicaragua has made known his rejection. "There is the vote, the vote does not kill anyone, it does not cause any injury to anyone, the vote does not call for terrorism or war, the vote does not call for the economy to be paralyzed and for families to end, the vote does not call for torture publicly. "
Daniel Ortega charges against the local opposition
The president wanted to make it clear that the local opposition only wants terrorism for the country, this is how he took advantage of his speech to recall the violent scenes of the 2018 anti-government demonstrations and insisted again that all terrorism has been financed by the United States…
However, minutes later he thanked the United States itself for having donated the vaccines against Covid-19. Ortega also wanted to remember what was the taking of the United States Capitol in January to defend the electoral process in Nicaragua.
An electoral process that has been widely criticized due to the imprisonment of seven of the candidates for the presidency by the opposition, as well as the cancellation of three of the rival parties and the repeal of electoral observation.
"In the United States that process is open, and the same rights that they have to open processes against terrorism we Nicaraguans have to enforce the law against terrorists, they were all conspiring, they did not want these elections to be held that have been made today".
Daniel Ortega has affirmed that Nicaragua has been very committed to voting since 1984, since then the country has held 49 completely transparent electoral processes, holding regional, municipal and presidential elections.
In each of these processes, it has been possible to elect departmental and national deputies, deputies for the Central American Parliament, mayors, president, vice president, vice mayors and councils and other autonomous authorities of the Caribbean.
