Ahmaud Arbery's killers sentenced to life imprisonment

Assassins of Ahmaud Arbery

More than a year after the incident, the three murderers of the young African-American Ahmaud Arbery were found guilty of life imprisonment. The judge rejected any possibility of parole.

How did the murder happen?

Ahmaud Arbery was killed by a fatal gunshot while jogging on February 23, 2020 in Georgia, Southern United States. The murderers killed Arbery because they thought the young man had committed a crime in the Satilla Shores condominium outside Brunswick, because of that they chased him and shortly after Bryan joined the persecution of Arbery. Bryan began filming the chase from a truck, which was able to record Travis McMichael getting out of his truck and confronting Arbery, and the two got into fighting because Travis had a shotgun.

The killers stated that they were acting in self-defense.

Sentencing the three murderers

Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, received life in prison plus 20 years without the possibility of parole. His neighbor, Willian Roddie Bryan, has the possibility of parole after 30 years.

Lawyers for the convicted have announced that they will appeal the sentence assigned to their clients, a trial is already scheduled for next February 7, the mother of the victim has filed a civil lawsuit.

The jury was made up of nine white women, two white men and one black man, they heard the statements of 23 witnesses during an 8-day trial.

Prosecutors announced that the three defendants used force to intimidate Arbery's right because of his race.
