A man of Pakistani origin was arrested by the police in the city of Punjab, after murdering his one-week-old daughter, claiming that he did it because his wish was "to have a boy, not a girl". This was announced this Thursday by the news outlet NDTV.

The incident occurred in the city of Mianwali, central Punjab province, Pakistan. But it was not until this Thursday, that the news came to light after the murderer and father of the victim were captured.

According to statements offered by a Mianwali police representative, the baby's father, Shahzeb Khan, had been angry and complaining for days about not having a son. And on Sunday he overflowed his annoyance and his firearm against what for him represented the source of his frustration, his eldest daughter Jannat, who was only seven days old.

At the same time as the crime, the victim's father fled the city, but after a thorough search, he was found on Thursday and put behind bars, awaiting trial for the murder of his daughter. This was reported by a Punjab police spokesman.

In Pakistan, there is a culture and/or thought that the male child represents something more important than the female within the family nucleus because the man has greater advantages and economic benefits for the family.

In recent years, this situation has produced an increase in violence and discrimination against women in this nation, affecting all women from childhood and also causing this type of crime.
