Viña del Mar Festival will return in 2023
The Municipality of Viña del Mar, together with the National Television of Chile and Channel 13, reported that this Thursday the first meeting of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival Commission was held, which was directed by the mayor of the city, Macarena Ripamonti.
Said commission is made up of councilors Carlos Williams, Sandro Puebla and Jorge Martínez; as delegates are Leonardo Rissetti, Patricio Rojo and Mario Araya, while Marcelo Hilsenrad with Mauricio Correa represent Channel 13 and Catalina Yudin together with Bicolás Opazo to the National Television of Chile.
In the first meeting, it was decided that the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, in its 62nd edition, would be held between Sunday 19 and Friday 24 February 2023.
At the end of the commission session, the local president, Macarena Ripamonti, expressed that "the Viña del Mar Festival is the heritage of our city, but also of our country and as such, the responsibility it deserves must be taken. This event requires a year of planning, for this reason we committed ourselves and set the date of its realization".
In addition, the president said that an event of an international nature needs certain guarantees and collaboration between the Municipality and "the private world of production," she asserted.
The mayor also commented that Viña del Mar has the necessary power to be an outstanding city throughout the year, "the challenge is to break down seasonality in our community and have a new vision of the items and benefits of our land," she added.
The last edition of the Viña del Mar International Festival was enjoyed in 2020, just weeks before the first case of covid-19 was registered in Chile. But that same year, in the month of November, the municipality reported that by not having artists confirmed for the event, the upcoming 2021 edition would be suspended for the first time in its history.
The following year the pandemic continued and the recommendation of the television channels to suspend the event took effect and it was postponed for another year, due to the losses that could be generated by having only 35% of the total capacity in the Fifth Vergara (around 14,100 people).
It is expected that after two years of hiatus in one of the most important music festivals in the world, his return will be much more tremendous than previous years, as well as the number of attendees.
