Consensus between Seoul and the United States to end the Korean War

South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong declared today that Seoul and Washington have virtually agreed on a draft declaration to end the Korean War (1950-1953), which the Government of South has been pushing for North Korea to return to the dialogue table.

Chung assured in a public interview that, regarding the issue of the declaration to end the conflict, the Republic of Korea and the United States have reached an effective agreement on its importance and both parties have practically reached an agreement on the draft.

Experts question the viability of this push, resurrected last September by South Korean President Moon Jae-in as a last-ditch attempt to lead Pyongyang into denuclearization talks before his term ends next May.

The text is planned to contribute to the culmination of the Korean War, which clearly ended with a ceasefire. However, the way it is a statement and not a covenant implies that it is not really an authorized agreement.

Chung said that, despite the fact that North Korea showed a progression of quick and positive responses to the affirmation of the end of the conflict, we anticipate that it should show a more substantial reaction.

Kim Yo-jong, the North Korean pioneer's sister, referred to the announcement as intriguing at the time, though she called on Seoul and Washington to drop their hostile policy around the system to advance the conversation.

Later, Kim Jong-un stated that he was unwilling to hold any meeting with the US. for now, to try to resurrect the stalled denuclearization deal due to "hostile politics".

Although he did not give details of what the procedure would be, Chung reported that they are analyzing different viable options to advance mediations with North Korea.

Chung's words come as North Korea is holding an important plenary in which it will outline its strategies and tactics for 2022.
