The United States receives a response from Russia to the letter on Ukraine

Authorities from the US State Department confirmed that they received a document from Russia on Monday.

Antony Blinken and Sergey Lavrov

This document has been received one day after the United States responded to Russia's list of demands, and prior to the scheduled call between the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, that will be on Tuesday.

The State Department spokesman, Antony Blinken, stated that it would not be productive to hold the negotiations publicly, therefore, they left the decision to Russia on whether or not to discuss their response.

He added that the United States and its allies are fully committed to the dialogue process.

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, permanent representative of the United States to the UN, in her statements, assured that the United States demanded a meeting with Russia to understand what its actions and intentions are.

Tension rises

To date, Russia has mobilized 120,000 soldiers to the border with Ukraine and has demanded NATO to withdraw its army from the region, and not allow Ukraine to join the organization.

Volodimir Zelenski, president of Ukraine, promulgated a decree that includes, among other measures, the hiring of 100,000 more soldiers in a period of three years. On the other hand, Russia continues to raise the tension on the other side of the border with more military mobilization.

Zelenski explained that this decree included progressive reinforcements, and also a general salary increase so that no soldier earns less than three minimum wages.

The president cataloged this decree as “the transition of Ukraine to the base of a professional army”, which will have insurances for soldiers and families alike.

Zelensky added that the reason for this decree is the coming war, and his duty is to ensure that peace prevails in the country. In addition, he assured that his confidence is in being able to defend themselves, but he highlighted and thanked the support of the allied countries.

The president has sought to lower tension in recent weeks due to high pressure, especially from the United States, due to an imminent Russian attack.

Zelensky called last week for a more balanced approach and asked them not to panic, after Western countries withdrew their diplomatic personnel.
