North Korea boasts of having missiles that can reach the United States
This Tuesday North Korea boasted of being one of the few countries in the world that has a nuclear arsenal and missiles with advanced technology.
Tension in the world has increased after a test of ballistic missiles belonging to North Korea. These exercises have been banned for some time by the UN Security Council.
After the exercises, North Korea boasted that it is the only country that faces the United States by "shaking the world" with this type of evidence.
With a total of seven launches, January broke the North Korean record for such exercises. In addition, a new hypersonic missile that can be maneuvered at high speed has been included.
Among these tests is the first launch since 2017 of the Hwansong-12 medium-range ballistic missile, with a range of United States territories in the Pacific Ocean.
The North Korean Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that these ballistic tests represent a great achievement that strengthens North Korea's war deterrence.
In addition, they mention the Hwansong-15 (ICBM for its acronym in English), an intercontinental ballistic missile that has the longest range of the entire North Korean arsenal. This missile has not been launched since its test in 2017.
It is estimated that with this long-range missile its nuclear warhead can reach anywhere in the United States.
The statement assures that many countries face the United States "submissive" and with "blind obedience" and that only North Korea has the nuclear capacity to deliver a missile to United States territory.
The State Department commented that the United States has no hostile intentions toward North Korea. In addition, he urged President Pyongyang to resume the dialogue.
North Korea was described as a threat to world peace and security by a spokesman for the US State Department.
The spokesman assured that the United States prioritizes deterrence as a defense method over North Korean provocations. He urged that the range of their destructive weapons be limited.
The director of 38 North, a Washington-based program on North Korea, Jenny Town, said the reason the North Korean statement came from the Foreign Ministry downplays what a threat it might have been.
In addition, he assured that he understands that North Korea is not going to do it, only that it is capable of doing it.
This Tuesday, in North Korea, the anniversary of its army was commemorated, a celebration that on previous occasions had numerous military parades.
However, this year no type of parade or exhibition of weapons was announced. The local media assured that it was due to the visit of the previous rulers of the nation.
Authorities from the United States and South Korea said they fear that the tests of the Hwasong-12 missile on January 30 will be a reason to resume nuclear tests at maximum capacity, or intercontinental missile exercises.
On Monday, the United States demanded that North Korea halt its nuclear tests and start looking after the needs of its citizens.
In turn, they assured that a military base has been identified on China's border with North Korea, which they claim has the mission of stationing ICBMs.
The dialogue process with the North Korean president Pyongyang for the cessation of nuclear tests in exchange for lowering the sanctions implemented has been paralyzed since 2019.
