Young Ukrainian women cut their hair to avoid being raped by Russian soldiers
The inhabitants of the Ukrainian city of Ivankiv, have decided to cut their hair, in order to "be less attractive" and avoid being sexually abused by Russian soldiers, as reported by Maryna Beschastna, deputy mayor of the town.
According to her story, young women have been victims of "horrible crimes" since the invasion of Moscow in Ukraine began, and where women have been the most harmed and violated.
Beschastna recounted how two sisters aged 15 and 16 were raped by Russian soldiers, the girls were dragged out of the basement where they were hiding by their hair, to be sexually abused by the occupants.
Added to this fact is the complaint of a woman, who pointed out that her husband was killed by the invading troops and, not satisfied with the fact, they repeatedly abused her while her son was in the next room, crying.
The rapists taunted the victim and threatened her with a gun as they discussed among themselves whether to "kill her or let her live." She and the 4-year-old child survived Russian hostility.
Faced with the increase in cases of sexual abuse, the member of the Ukrainian parliament, Lesia Vasylenko, detailed to United Kingdom officials, the complaints of violations have often been in groups and then executed by the aggressors. Others take their own lives after the crime.
This town is near Kiev and was occupied by Russian forces since February 24, when the Russian occupation began and was liberated by Ukrainian troops on March 30 after they took control and built a bridge.
Although war crimes are being evaluated, where thousands of Ukrainian civilians have died, we must add the innumerable cases of rape of women, especially young women, who have decided to shave their heads to go unnoticed.
