American journalist killed by Russian attack
Another journalist and a Ukrainian civilian were also injured.
On Sunday, 51-year-old American journalist and filmmaker Brent Renaud was killed in an attack in Irpin, on the outskirts of Kiev.
Andrii Nebitov, the police chief of the Kiev region, reported the event and assured that it was carried out by Russian forces, in the Ukrainian territory, which has witnessed Vladimir Putin's war for days.
Nebitov assured that the invaders kill even the journalists of the international media, in charge of showing the truth of the great atrocities carried out by the Russian troops in Ukraine.
He added in the information that the correspondent of the famous New York Times was shot dead in Irpen and that another journalist was wounded. The victim was being removed from the combat zone.
Both were hit by bullets while driving through the area in their car, along with a Ukrainian civilian, who was also injured.
Ukraine's defense volunteer doctor, Danylo Shapovalov, was the one who pinpointed the information. Shapovaloc is the one who was also in charge of treating the victims.
Among Renaud's belongings were found The New York Times ID and his passport, which confirms that he is a US citizen.
After the news was released, the Times reported that the journalist was not in charge of covering the conflict for them, and that he has not collaborated for the media for seven years.
Cliff Levy, deputy editor of the NYT, posted on his Twitter account that, "We are very saddened by the news of the death of Brent Renaud."
He also explained that Renaud had been working for many years as a photographer for The New York Times, but since 2015 he had not been on the newspaper's payroll, since he did not work for them.
Levy said that he was said to be working at the Times, as Renaud was still carrying his ID, which was issued when he worked for them.
