Approximately 75 million people will be present in the path of the cyclone, this threat keeps all state governments on alert.

Kathy Hochuk, Governor of New York, assures that this bombogenesis storm could endanger the lives of citizens. So he suggested the population to keep at home with a six-pack of beers while the event is over.

The storm is confirmed by meteorologists as a nor'easter, and could cover Boston with 61 cm (2 feet) of snow. In some parts of New York, 30 cm (1 foot) of snow has already been recorded.

In 2003, the record accumulation of 70 cm (27.6 inches) of snow occurred in 24 hours.

Likewise, specialists have predicted gusts of 96 to 120 km/h (60-75 mph) on the coast. For this reason, more than 5,000 flights were canceled over the weekend. This type of phenomenon has not occurred in the country for approximately four years.

Bombogenesis

This phenomenon occurs when the storm becomes stronger in a few seconds. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ensures that this happens in the middle latitudes of the atmosphere.

At the moment that the atmospheric pressure drops to approximately 24 millibars, in a period of 24 hours, this event occurs.

The agency explained via its website that when the mass of cold air comes into contact with the mass of warm air, the phenomenon takes place. Like when the air falls over the warm waters of the ocean.

Esther Mullens, a meteorologist, declared that, in the US, its east coast is the region where this phenomenon is most common.

The expert commented that it is due to storms in the middle latitudes, in a temperate zone north of the tropics that makes up the continental department of the United States, which are responsible for extracting energy from the immense temperature contrasts.

In the meteorological field this term is very common. It is often defined as a bomb cyclone, despite the fact that it seems alarmist to many.

In this event, the characteristics of the hurricane, such as precipitation, strong winds, “eye”-like center, can be adopted by this phenomenon.
