Colombia: new attack against the Army
The attack was recorded in an Infantry Battalion in the department of Meta and two deaths were reported.
In the department of Meta, in the center of Colombia, there was a new attack which was carried out with a motorcycle bomb. The event left as a result, five people injured and two deceased.
On this occasion, the attack was directed at the Pantano de Vargas Battle Infantry Battalion No. 21, in the municipality of Granada.
General Antonio Beltrán Díaz, commander of the Army's Fourth Division, accused a group called "Jorge Briceño" of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) of this attack.
They tried to enter with the excuse of taking food in the motocar, to the units that are cantoned.
One of the soldiers heroically prevented the vehicle from accessing the facilities. However, this officer was killed in the attack.
In this region, there is a strong presence of criminal gangs that were born after the demobilization of the paramilitary United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) and FARC groups.
These groups are in charge of fighting to have territorial control of the area, which is located in Los Llanos Orientales, according to the Ombudsman's Office.
In recent months, in different parts of Colombia, violence has been on the rise. In the departments of Arauca (east), Bajo Cauca Antioquia (northwest), Cauca (southwest), Catatumbo and in the south of the Pacific.
Last Sunday, a car bomb exploded near the Padilla Police Station. On January 20, another similar event occurred, when another car bomb exploded in Arauca, a border area with Venezuela.
