Joe Biden breaks relations with Russia and announces sanctions
President Joe Biden ordered the mobilization of 5,000 more soldiers to German territory and ensures that all territories belonging to NATO will be defended.
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, announced this Thursday new sanctioning measures against the Kremlin and against people linked to the Putin government, after the attack on Ukraine.
These sanctions will have a negative effect on the Russian economy in the short, medium and long term, with the mission of doing as much damage as possible to the Russian government.
Likewise, the measures seek to isolate Russia from all international markets, limiting its access to the euro, the dollar, the pound sterling and the yen, which would greatly complicate Russian trade and financial investments.
Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, with its 25 branches, has been banned from the US financial system. In turn, the United States froze the assets that are under its jurisdiction.
In addition to the sanctions, there is an impediment to the purchase of debts and other operations in the international markets of large Russian companies that have assets that exceed the figure of 1.4 billion dollars.
Precise sanctions have been issued to business associates of Vladimir Putin, in addition to their relatives.
Through his speech, Biden assures that Putin is the aggressor, that it is his decision to start this war and it will be Putin himself who will pay the consequences.
Biden requested a meeting with members of the G-7
In this sanctions package, Joe Biden has not mentioned some of the options that were being discussed, such as banning Russia from the world banking system or directly sanctioning Vladimir Putin.
In this context, economic experts assure that these sanctions will not have an immediate negative effect on Russia, since the Kremlin has prepared itself in recent years for this type of emergency and has 600,000 million dollars in its national reserve.
In the morning hours, Biden held a meeting with representatives of the G-7 to agree on the response to Putin's attack on Ukraine.
For an hour and ten minutes, Biden managed to talk with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
In addition, the meeting was joined by: Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg and the President of the European Council Charles Michel.
According to the United States presidential spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, a large part of world democracy and 50% of the entire planet's economy are involved in the G-7, which ensures that the sanctioning measures that Russia will receive "will be unprecedented."
As a result of the attack orchestrated by Putin, Russia will be the victim of immediate and decisive pressure on its economy. Isolation from the global financial system will incur massive costs.
On the other hand, the White House also sanctioned the Russian military by banning some imports of technological supplies to Russia.
Reinforcements against Russian expansion
In his speech, Biden assures that NATO has come out stronger in the midst of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Within the next few days, a summit of allies will be convened to carry out the necessary efforts to stop "Russian expansionism," Biden assured.
Some members of NATO are countries that belonged to the former Soviet Union and the expansion of this alliance towards Eastern Europe has been the main trigger for Putin.
From the Pentagon they assure that the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory has three main flanks, where one manages as its main objective the overthrow of the Ukrainian government to install one under the mandate of Russia.
