With the closure of the United States Embassy in Cuba four years ago, all kinds of immigration procedures were complicated for Cubans who wanted to reunite with their relatives residing in the United States. This Thursday the US embassy called a press conference without saying anything, but a State Department spokesman announced on Tuesday that they are analyzing the possibility of increasing the embassy staff, “to facilitate diplomatic and civil society participation and provision of consular services.

Biden's plan to increase the staff of officials at the embassy

President Joe Biden released the news that this week he will give information on the plan his government has for increasing the staff of the embassy in Havana.

The plan they have in mind is to restore all immigration procedures for Cubans and to be able to facilitate all legal processes at the United States embassy in Havana. All Cubans found it very difficult to obtain a visa to enter the United States., since they had to go to a third country to be able to carry out their interview and medical check-ups.

The first officials have arrived in Cuba

The first officials sent by the State Department are already in Havana, with the aim of being able to reopen the embassy and immigration procedures for Cubans.

This Thursday at the Diplomatic Center they will hold a press conference where they will talk about the reopening of the embassy, where it is expected that all the plans they have planned will be approved.

If these measures are fulfilled, it would be the first that the Biden administration, after a year of reviewing the policy towards Cuba.
