From Ukraine they have denounced a new war crime, according to the local council of Gostomel, the mayor, Yuri Prilipko, was assassinated by the Russian army when he was on his way to deliver humanitarian aid to displaced persons affected by the war.

The statement was shared by the Gostomel council. The northern city of Ukraine assured that the mayor was a volunteer in this mission and that his murder makes him a "war hero".

In addition, the city authorities point out that two more people died in the attack.

On the other hand, the statement indicates that the mayor was not obliged to expose his life, since he could have been protected in a bunker.

Gostomel has been one of the key cities for Russia since the invasion began. This town, which is close to kyiv, has the Kyiv Antonov airport, which was controlled by Russian troops on February 24.

In this town, a humanitarian corridor had been deployed to Chernobyl and also to Gomel and Gden, both cities in Belarus. The mission was to expedite the transfer of those regulated by air.

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has detailed that, as of Monday, the number of people displaced by the war has risen to 1.73 million people.
