Semarnat gives the green light to the Santa Lucia airport

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) gave the green light for the construction of the new airport in Mexico City. Said secretariat considers that this project presented by the president of the United Mexican States Andrés Manuel López Obrador is environmentally viable, however, although it gave the green light, it did so on a conditional basis.

The document issued states that it will last 50 years in operation according to the current master plan. In addition, 16 conditions are established for the construction of the Santa Lucia airport, the most important of which are:

* Present the way in which the strategies for environmental compensation will be sustained.

* Show rescue programs for flora and fauna.

* Launch a restoration plan based on the Deforestation, Management and Soil Restoration Program proposed by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).

* Present and prepare the Annual Bird Monitoring Program.

Some more conditions are; the attenuation of noise levels, and the prevention and response in the event of risky meteorological events, sustainable use of water, environmental monitoring, among others.
