Two Ukrainian footballers have died in the Russian invasion

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) confirmed the deaths of footballers Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martynenko.

The football players' union announced the death of two players from Ukraine, due to the Russian invasion of that country. Vitali Sapylo and Dmytro Martynenko, 21 and 25 years old each.

David Aganzo, president of the Federation, communicated on his Twitter account that the young soccer players were the first two lost in the world of soccer as a result of the war.

Vitali Sapylo, was part of the youth ranks of Karpaty Lviv, and according to official statements from his club, he died in combat defending Kiev, where Ukrainian soldiers sought to stop the advance of Russian soldiers.

On the other hand, Dmytro Martynenko, who was a player at Gostomel FC, died next to his family, after the Russian bombing hit his house.

Biathlete dies in clashes

A few hours before the death of the young footballers was announced, the Federation of Winter Sports in Ukraine announced the death of the young biathlete Yevhen Malyshev.

Malyshev, born in 2002, was serving in the military after putting his professional winter sports career on hold two years ago.

According to the Ukrainian media, the biathlete died on the Ukrainian front in a fight that sought to repel the Russian army.

The Ukrainian Biathlon Federation confirmed the young man's death in a statement that read:

“We deeply sing to the homeland, to friends and family. Eternal memory”.
