According to Ukrainian and British media, Russian mercenaries and special forces from Chechnya would have been the ones who tried to assassinate President Zelensky.

The so-called Wagner group is a "private army" that is supported by Russian and Chechen paramilitary forces. Wagner was ordered to eliminate Ukraine's leader, but attempts have been interrupted.

The media say that the mercenaries of the Wagner group have suffered numerous casualties in Kiev in their assassination attempts and have been amazed at how Ukraine has been able to anticipate the attacks.

The media quote an anonymous source close to Wagner, who says that it has been "intriguing" how well informed the president's security ring is.

Apparently, on February 26, an attack on President Zelensky was carried out on the outskirts of the capital, and Ukrainian security authorities have claimed that a large group of Chechen mercenaries had been killed before they reached the president's perimeter.

Secretary of the Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov told the Ukrainian media that Russian spies were the ones who noticed the plans to assassinate the president.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the information received, which led to the elimination of the group of Chechens, arose through agents of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Wagner mercenaries

The Wagner mercenary group has been in the Ukrainian capital for more than six weeks, monitoring and collecting information on approximately 24 key targets for Russia.

According to the media, this group was ordered to wait for the arrival of the Russian special forces "Spetsnaz", so that they could deploy a safe corridor to flee the capital, once they completed the mission to assassinate Zelensky.

An anonymous source close to the Wagner group in Kiev revealed that the mercenaries are believed to have plans to carry out another attack against Zelensky before the end of the week.
