Meat Loaf recipe in the best American style
The meatloaf or American Meat Loaf, is a typical dish of the gastronomy of the United States. This is not only delicious, but it is also common to see it in various television series or movies.
The dish is generally ideal for special dinners or lunches. In addition, it provides large amounts of nutrients, especially protein thanks to the large amount of meat that makes it up.
The recipe in general is not complicated to make, nor is it necessary to have a large amount of ingredients for its preparation. However, if you want to get a perfect dish, it is best that you pay attention not only to the steps, but also to our recommendations.
Meat Loaf Ingredients
Some basil leaves (preferably fresh).
Grated Parmesan cheese.
Garlic paste or cream. (You can also use crushed garlic).

Recommendations and tips for a perfect recipe
Ideally, the celery pieces should be very small, so that they integrate well when cooking.
When kneading the meat, it is best to wear gloves so as not to get your hands dirty.
Take into account that all the vegetables must be cut very well, so if you like, you can add them to a food processor, instead of chopping them.
Before you put the layer of meat in the baking dish, grease the mold a little with butter so that the meat does not stick, or use a non-stick mold.
In case you do not have some of these ingredients, you can well add your personal touch, although keep in mind that the result will not be like that of the authentic American recipe.
Steps to follow to prepare the meat loaf
Note: Due to the length of this recipe, we will divide the process into several parts.
Cutting the vegetables
Wash the potatoes and place them in a saucepan with enough water.
On a cutting board, dice the celery into small squares.
We continue chopping the shallot, first lengthwise and then into very small squares.
We clean the jalapeño, for this we cut the ends, then longitudinally and extract the seeds and the white part. Then we cut it lengthwise into strips and then the strips were cut into small squares.
We reserve all the vegetables in a bowl where we will later add the meat.
Also cut the red pepper, extracting the seeds and the white part. Finally, we cut into strips and then into small squares.
We chop the onions in the same way into small squares, add to the bowl and reserve.
We slice the mushrooms and put them in the bowl.
Also cut the basil leaves into very small pieces, or if you prefer, crush them to add to the bowl.
We mix the vegetables with our hands so that they are integrated.
To the bowl with the vegetables we will add the 900 grams of ground meat and mix the meat and vegetables well until they are perfectly integrated.
Add liquid smoke, the amount you think necessary, followed by the soy sauce, nutmeg, Parmesan cheese (one cup), liquid cream and freshly ground salt.
Next, chop the sliced bread into small pieces and gradually add them until you notice a layer of approximately one centimeter in the bowl.
Later, add a couple of eggs and with your hands we knead this mixture to integrate it well. The ideal is to obtain a homogeneous paste.
Preparation of the potatoes
Once you notice that the potatoes are well cooked, add a glass of milk, 150 grams of butter, 150 grams of Philadelphia cheese, nutmeg, garlic paste, salt and a tablespoon of sour cream.
With the help of a potato masher, mash and integrate this mixture well until obtaining a homogeneous purée. To do this, take the time you think necessary.
At the end, sprinkle with the spice mix and continue grinding.
Assembling the meatloaf
In a tray, add the meat mixture to cover the base and press with your hands to make it flat, distributing over the entire surface.
Next, place a layer of mashed potatoes, distributing well over the entire surface. Ideally, this layer should be one or two centimeters.
Add a generous amount of Parmesan cheese to the surface of the purée.
Finally, add a last layer of the meat. This last layer should be placed without pressing too much, to maintain the integrity of the purée. In the upper area we place some bacon or bacon slats. Although, the latter is optional to decorate.
Bake and serve
Bring the meatloaf to 50º F or 180º C for 45 minutes. Ideally, the heat in the oven should be up and down, so that the meat cooks perfectly.
Once this time has passed, we remove the meatloaf from the mold and with a syringe we extract the liquid, then cover with a little meat sauce, the one of your choice. Brush to cover well.
Return the tray to the oven for 20 more minutes.
With this, we will have our Meat Loaf smooth. We remove from the oven, unmold and serve on a plate to enjoy.
With what to accompany the Meat Loaf?
You can accompany this dish with a green salad of your choice, Cesar salad or simply with steamed vegetables. Another good option is to accompany it with French fries as a garnish.
If you are a fan of rice, you can also accompany it with a cup of rice à la jardinera. However, for those who want to keep the style simple, they can be served with only slices of garlic bread or fried bread.
In the case of drinks, you can accompany it with a can of beer or a glass of orange juice or lemonade.
