"I am pleased to announce that I will be appointing Robert C. O'Brien, currently serving as a successful Presidential Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the State Department, as our new Homeland Security Advisor (…) I have worked long and hard with Robert. He will do a great job "wrote Donald Trump on his Twitter
Robert C. O'Brien served as a special envoy for hostage affairs and worked for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo heading the Overseas Hostage Affairs and Deals Division.
He is an old acquaintance of the White House, since he has worked for George W. Bush and Barack Obama in different positions, which makes him a man committed to the United States and not to the government of the day.
Now he will occupy the position that American figures such as Michael Flynn, HR McMaster and John Bolton once held in the Trump era.
It is believed that Robert C. O'Brien will have to address the issues of Afghanistan, peace with the Taliban and the recent confrontations with Iran. The new national security adviser must be a follower of the president's policies, since John Bolton's departure is because he did not agree with Trump's decisions.
At the moment the new tasks of Robert C. O'Brien have not been known, but it is expected that in the next few hours he will support the tightening of the sanctions that will be carried out against Iran.
