Nachos were created in the town of Piedras Negras, Mexico, by Ignacio Anaya, a restaurant owner, in 1943. This invention was made because Ignacio had to prepare a quick snack for US military wives.

Ignacio proceeded to fry tortillas, added jalapeños and hot cheese, and named the dish: The Nacho Special.

The dish became famous in Texas. In the 1970s, the popularity of the dish increased, as the Texas Rangers baseball team started selling it at the Arlington stadium.

After the death of Ignacio Anaya, known as "Nacho", he passed away on November 6, 1975 and the members of the city created this International Day. In addition to paying tribute to him with a plaque.

December 5: Ninja Day
