Brent Renaud

Brent Renaud was a filmmaker and journalist. On Sunday, March 13, he died in Ukraine, after being shot near the neck by Russian soldiers.

Juan Arredondo was Renaud's companion and was also attacked, while they were covering the displacement of refugees who have been fleeing the war, in a city called Irpin, 8 kilometers from Kyiv.

Renaud, 50 years old, was a very talented filmmaker. This is how Danielle Rhoades, spokeswoman for the New York Times, remembers it, the medium in which she worked until 2015.

The Ukrainian authorities reported from the beginning, Brent's link with the newspaper since he had the Times identification in his wallet when he was found dead.

During his career, the journalist worked for various US media such as Discovery, HBO, Vice News, and NBC.

Brent witnessed the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, the political turmoil in Libya and Egypt, and the earthquake in Haiti. Throughout his career, the different reports of violence by the cartels in Mexico and the great refugee crisis in Central America can be included.

He also received a scholarship from the Nieman Foundation for Journalism, between the years 2018 and 2019. For this, he decided to study at Harvard University.

For the past ten years, Brent and his brother Craig have worked in partnership at Renaud Brothers, based in Little Rock, New York, and Arkansas City.

In 2015, together they received the Peabody Award, recognizing excellence in American television and radio, for the documentary ' Last Chance High'.

He was also awarded for his work The New York Times, by the Colombia Dupont, Edward R. Murrow, and Overseas Press Club awards.
