Biden asked Congress for $33 billion to support Ukraine
Anticipating that the war in Ukraine will continue, the president of the United States, Joe Biden, asked Congress for 33 billion dollars to support the defense of the invaded country and thus ease the humanitarian crisis.
The head of state assured that if Kiev is financed, a greater conflict with Russia will be avoided in the future and thus Moscow's military arm will also be weakened.
"Investing in Ukraine's freedom and security is a small price to pay to punish aggression."
Biden stressed that the threat is increasing, not only for the United States, but for the world, and according to his experience “in the past” if “a dictator” is not stopped, chaos ensues.
Help for the next 5 months
This new support is scheduled for the next 5 months and adds to the more than 13.6 billion in military aid that Ukraine has already received.
The financing would be distributed in 20 billion in weapons and military equipment (it also includes replenishing the US arsenal) and 8.5 billion dollars to face the humanitarian crisis that Ukraine is facing and has left thousands of displaced people. The remainder was not specified.
Other requests to Congress
Biden took the opportunity to ask the United States Congress to approve a bill of 22 billion dollars to promote measures against Covid - 19.
In addition, he requested an appeal to strengthen the crop production law and thus deal with the food crisis that is being experienced worldwide due to the war in Ukraine.
In the same order of ideas, other resources will be used to strengthen the mining of those resources that have been affected by the invasion.
