Borrell: What happens in Mariupol is a huge war crime – News – WebMediums
Among the sanctions that the EU is studying is not supplying electricity from Russia.

Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, denounced that Russia's permanent attack on the city of Mariupol is a war crime and assured that the sanctions will now be more severe.

During a meeting of EU Foreign and Defense Ministers, he pointed out that " Russia is committing many war crimes. What is happening in Mariupol is a huge war crime, they are bombing and killing indiscriminately" and reaffirmed Russia's support for the community to Ukraine.

He also assured that Russia is out of control and has broken all the regulations of the war, by using its weapons against civilians, for which he indicated that "it is not a war, it is the total destruction of a country."

toughen sanctions

Borrell took the opportunity to announce that new sanctions are being worked on for Moscow, including the electricity sector, although he did not reveal many details.

It is expected that for the next meetings of ministers of the European Union the subject and a possible boycott of Russian oil will be discussed, as the United States and the United Kingdom have already done.

The Irish minister, Simon Coveney, supports the initiative, stressing that "it is difficult to think that we should not move into the energy sector and disrupt normal trade".

While for Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod the key to ending the war is to weaken Moscow economically, he stressed that "the position of the Czech Republic is to have stronger sanctions, the goal is not to overthrow Putin.".

Some ministers raised their voices to ask Germany to join the sanctions against Russia, indicating that it is necessary for Berlin to listen to the clamor of the people and take the step.

It should be noted that on March 24, the President of the United States, Joe Biden will join the European Union security meeting.
