A three-year-old boy died last Tuesday, after spending 15 hours inside a water well in Afghanistan, this would be the fourth infant to lose his life in this country so far this year.

The infant's name was Zainullah and when the accident happened he was in the Afghan district of Musa Qala, Helmand province. When falling into the water well with more than 90 meters of depth, he suffered injuries that caused him to be able to resist only 15 hours alive.

The director of the Helmand Department of Culture and Information, Hafiz Rashid Helmandi, told the EFE news agency that they did everything possible to rescue the boy, but "unfortunately he died in the water hole," he said.

Hafiz also noted that both the governor and the city's intelligence and rescue personnel worked as fast as they could, without resting, but with the goal and hope of getting Zainullah out alive, but the attempts were not enough., explained the director.

The authorities of the region had been carrying out awareness campaigns in the population so that they kept their water wells covered, due to the danger they represented for children.

Since last February, the Afghan authorities have reported the death of four children by falling into wells, the cases occurred in the southern provinces of Kandahar, Helmand and in the eastern Zabul.

Economic crisis

Afghanistan is experiencing a major economic crisis, for this reason every day it is more complex for the governments of the provinces to face this type of situation, due to the lack of resources, which also limits them to cover the basic needs of the country.

Most of the wells are built in rural regions to counteract drought and also to grow poppy in places where there is no access to water.
