Camilla Fabri, wife of Alex Saab is investigated in Italy for alleged money laundering
The Italian model read this Sunday a letter from Alex Saab in the Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, where she denies her collaboration with the US authorities.
The case of Alex Saab, the Colombian businessman, recently extradited to the United States (USA), has given much to talk about in Venezuela and the world, but his alleged corruption plot has also affected his wife, the Italian model Camilla Fabri, since the justice of that country investigates her for alleged money laundering.
The Italian media Il Tempo, affirmed that the young model, in 2016, signed a rental contract of 5,750 euros per month (69,000 euros per year) for a house in Parioli, a luxurious neighborhood in Rome.
Then, in 2019, the authorities of his country seized 1.8 million euros and 1 luxury apartment in Rome valued at 4.8 million euros and seized 8 works of art and 1 tapestry, which would be linked to Fabri.
According to Italian media investigations, the tax police had suspicions of international corruption, illegal gold trafficking, money laundering, embezzlement, among other crimes.
According to the local media, the investigations would be involving Colombian businessmen who are part of an international corruption network, who would handle contracts to provide food to the Local Supply and Production Committees.
The luxurious life of Cami Fabri
Camilla Fabri, the 27-year-old Roman woman, in 2012 worked as a salesperson in a clothing store in Milan, and had aspirations as a model, in fact, she participated in a television program.
The most recent investigations have indicated that Fabri had a disproportionate standard of living, when comparing the income declared to the authorities (1,800 euros per month).
In 2017, Alex Saab's wife bought a Rover Range Evoque vehicle for the amount of 54,000 euros, a fact that is surprising, since until that moment, she had a modest economic income.
A year later he acquired a building in Via Condotti, where the Bulgari jewelry store and one of the most elegant streets of Rome are located, for 4.7 million euros, and according to the investigation hypothesis of the Guardia di Finanza of Italy, the model would have laundered the money of her husband, 49 years old.
Now, the question that many might ask is, how this woman could give herself a life of so many luxuries.
The same was done by the Finance Currency Unit led by General Giovanni Padula, and made progress in controlling the model's bank accounts and investigating her for the crime of money laundering.
According to the newspaper El Heraldo de Colombia, Fabri's money came from the United Kingdom thanks to the provisions of Kinlock Investment, a company run by her sister's boyfriend, Lorenzo Antonelli, with shares in a British trust and a company of Dubai.
These investigations have shown that the economic resources of Saab's wife come from the bribes that the government of Nicolás Maduro would have paid the Colombian businessman, for an alleged distribution of food in Venezuela.
The Italian who captivated Saab
The journalist Gerardo Reyes, points out that Alex Saab met Fabri in a restaurant in France.
Some time later they began dating, and later the couple moved to a luxurious apartment located in the Saint Germain neighborhood of Paris.
To date, the model has two daughters with Saab, one 1-year-old and the other 4, the other facts of her personal life, little is known.
Media have indicated that it is presumed that Fabri was in Venezuela in recent months under the protection of the government of Nicolás Maduro, and after the Colombian's arrest in Cape Verde, the family traveled to Russia.
In public light at Bolívar Plaza
Camilla Fabri was publicly known on Sunday, October 17, during a ceremony in the Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, where a group of followers of the Maduro government gathered to show their support for the businessman accused in the United States of 8 crimes: 7 counts of money laundering and one for conspiracy to launder money.
During his appearance, Fabri expressed his rejection of the US government's decision, and read a letter sent by Saab, in which he stressed that he will not collaborate with the US authorities.
"I have nothing to collaborate with the United States, I have not committed any crime in the United States or in any country and I do not intend to lie to favor the United States against the one that is going through an inhuman blockade (Venezuela)," says part of the text of the businessman's letter, read by his wife this Sunday.
Similarly, he accused the United States and the Venezuelan opposition led by Juan Guaidó of his life and physical integrity, adding that he is not a "suicide", stating that if something happens to him, it will be murder.
Defended by Nicolás Maduro
The reactions in the Venezuelan government were not long in coming. That same Sunday, October 17, Nicolás Maduro, during an address on public television, expressed solidarity with Camilla Fabri and Alex Saab.
Maduro insisted that the Colombian businessman was kidnapped by the United States, while recalling that Saab was recently appointed as a member of his negotiating team in the dialogue that takes place in Mexico with the Venezuelan opposition.
He also asserted that Venezuela is moving at all levels to support Saab.
This Monday, October 18, the hearing against Alex Saab began, in which all the parties to the trial agreed that the businessman will be detained after the hearing.
The prosecution recalled that Saab is in flight danger and that they do not recommend in any way that he receive bail, proposed by the defense lawyer.
