Canada will send military protective equipment to Ukraine
In February, Canada sent arms, ammunition and a €347 million loan to Ukraine.
On Sunday, the Canadian government announced that it will be immediately sending military protection equipment to Ukraine.
Among this equipment will be helmets and bulletproof vests. In addition, they again ruled out the deployment of troops against the Russian army.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly told a news conference that Ukrainian soldiers are in need of bulletproof vests, helmets, night vision equipment and gas masks.
Therefore, Ottawa decided to provide 25 million Canadian dollars (17.6 million euros), in military protective equipment especially for the Ukrainian army.
Joly commented that he received the request for this supply directly from Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.
After the Canadian government proceeded to close its airspace to Russian planes, Canada's chief diplomat said she hopes to make it very clear that they intend to do much more.
Through Poland, the protective equipment will be sent "quickly" to the Ukrainian army, said Anita Anand, Canadian Defense Minister.
The minister at the press conference explained that, at the moment, the combat mission is not in her plans, nor in that of her allies, including the United States.
On February 14, Canada declared the shipment of ammunition and weapons to Ukraine, accompanied by a loan of 500 million Canadian dollars, which is equivalent to 347 million euros.
